Foster Farrar was founded in 1796 by Samuel Clark Jr. on Main Street in Northampton Massachusetts with the goal of becoming the source of materials for local carpenters and contractors.

Whatever was needed for construction, you could find it at Foster Farrar. Over the years, Foster Farrar developed the reputation of being the go-to place for both the common and not-so-common construction materials, as well as the product and usage knowledge to go with it.
In 1989 Foster Farrar moved from its Main Street location to its current home at 145 King Street. The move to King Street allowed for more convenient parking for its customers.
